Chinese mobile phone maker Vivo will no longer be the title sponsor of IPL. In his place, Tata Group has been made the new title sponsor of the IPL. From next year i.e. 2023, the tournament will now be known as TATA IPL. Last year, the title rights could not be transferred from Vivo amid tensions in China and India.

Vivo will be the sponsor of IPL only till 2022. IPL chairman Brijesh Patel has given this information to news agency PTI. This decision was taken in the IPL Governing Council meeting on Tuesday.

Vivo gives Rs 440 crore to BCCI every year
Chinese company Vivo pays Rs 440 crore every year to BCCI for IPL title sponsorship. When there was a protest in the country due to the dispute between India and China last year, Vivo had to take a break for a year. Earlier in the IPL 2020 season, fantasy gaming firm Dream-11 was the title sponsor. For this Dream-11 had given Rs 222 crore to BCCI. This contract was from 18 August to 31 December 2020. This amount was almost half of Vivo’s annual payment.

Vivo is the title sponsor of IPL till 2022
Vivo had a contract for IPL title sponsorship for 5 years with Rs 2190 crores. The company used to give Rs 440 crore annually. This contract was from 2018 to 2022. Earlier there was news that Vivo’s contract could be extended till 2023, but now Tata has taken his place.

Difference between central and title sponsorship
Only domestic companies dominate the central sponsorship of IPL. The rights of both central and title sponsorship are different. The rights to jerseys do not come under central sponsorship in the IPL. That is, only the title sponsorship has the right on the logo printed on the jersey.

Along with this, the company gets good space for its branding like post-match presentation area, backdrop in the dugout and boundary rope. Title sponsorship costs more money than a central contract.
