The cannabis plant is effective in preventing corona virus infection. This claim has been made in a new research published in the Journal of Natural Products. According to scientists, there are some compounds in the cannabis plant ie Cannabis, with the help of which the virus can be prevented from entering the body. Earlier, scientists from the University of Lethbridge had also researched this topic.
What does research say
Scientists from Oregon State’s Global Hemp Innovation Center, College of Pharmacy and the Linus Pauling Institute worked together on research to understand the connection between cannabis and the coronavirus.
In the research, two compounds found in the cannabis plant, cannabigerolic acid (CBGA) and cannabidiolic acid (CBDA) were studied. Scientists found that these acids are able to bind to the spike protein of the corona virus (SARS-CoV-2). The point to be kept in mind here is that this spike protein of the virus enters the human body and damages their cells.
According to scientists, if we already attach this spike protein to the compound found in cannabis, then it will not be able to cause infection in our body.
These acids of cannabis do not have any effect on the brain
Scientists say that the acids of cannabis which are effective in fighting the virus are not psychoactive. Simply put, by consuming them, our mind does not lose control after getting drunk. Research has also shown that these compounds of cannabis are equally effective against the alpha variant found in Britain and the beta variant found in South Africa.
Cannabis can be used to make corona vaccine
The acids present in cannabis give good protection to our body. Therefore, scientists believe that in the future they can be used to make vaccines and develop antibodies to target the corona virus. In addition, these compounds of cannabis can also be taken orally (by mouth). However, its use has not been fully confirmed.
Currently, the compounds found in the cannabis plant are a source of fiber and animal food. They are commonly used in the manufacture of cosmetics, body lotions and dietary supplements.
