The ICC on Monday announced the best player for the month of December. New Zealand’s Ajaz Patel has been selected as the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for December 2021. This player created history by taking 10 wickets in an innings during the Test match played against India at Wankhede in December. New Zealand spinner Ejaz became only the third bowler in the world after former England bowler Jim Laker (1956) and former Indian captain Anil Kumble (1999) to take all 10 wickets in an innings.
Apart from Ejaz, these players were in the race
Apart from Ijaz, Team India’s opener Mayank Agarwal and Australian bowler Mitchell Starc were also nominated for the ICC Player of the Month. Mayank Agarwal did a wonderful job in the Test series against New Zealand in December. At the same time, Mitchell Starc is doing well in the Ashes series.
Ejaz belongs to Gujarati family
Ejaz was born in Mumbai in 1988 and his family moved to New Zealand in 1996. Hailing from a Gujarati family, Ejaz’s father was involved in the refrigeration business. Ejaz’s mother was a school teacher. His family came to Mumbai from Tankaria village in Bharuch district about 50 years ago. After this his father settled in New Zealand from Mumbai in connection with business.
Test match saved by batting
Ejaz came to bat at number 10 in the second innings of the first Test match played between India and New Zealand at Kanpur. Team India could have won this test, but it ended in a very exciting way without any result. The Kiwi team had a target of 284 runs in the match, but New Zealand made the match draw by batting firmly on the last day.
Ejaz Patel played a big role in getting the match drawn. He faced 23 balls while saving the wicket. Patel, along with Rachin Ravindra for the last wicket, faced a total of 52 balls and drew the Test match.
Was dropped from the team in the next series
Despite this brilliant performance, Ajaz Patel was dropped from the Test series against Bangladesh. This series is being played in New Zealand. The selectors had given a strange argument for not including Ajaz Patel in the team for this Test series to be held in New Zealand. He believed that Ajaz was not included in the team due to New Zealand conditions, while former New Zealand Test captain and left-handed spinner Daniel Vettori has rarely been out of the team in home series.
